Non I.V. /Oral Sedation
- Discontinue aspirin and any medications containing aspirin for 2 weeks prior to your surgical appointment, unless instructed by your physician not to discontinue this medication. Please check with your physician to confirm prior to stopping the medicine(s).
- Discontinue Advil, Aleve, or any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication one-week prior to your surgical appointment. You may substitute Tylenol for these medications unless you have certain liver or kidney problems. Please check with your physician prior to stopping the medicine(s).
- Discontinue Vitamin E one week prior to your surgical appointment.
- Inform this office if you are taking any other anticoagulant medication, i.e., Plavix, Coumadin, etc.
You will need to be off these medications prior to surgery if your physician allows it. Please check with you physician before stopping the medicine(s).
- Take any prescribed antibiotic as directed for heart murmur, artificial joint replacement(s), or Mitral Valve Prolapse.
- Take all routine medications as directed by your physician. Please inform this office of all routine medications you are currently taking.
- Please inform this office of all allergies to medications.
- Plan to rest at home the remainder of the day and the following day after your surgical appointment.
- Eat a light meal prior to your surgical appointment. Avoid heavy or greasy foods.
- Please have someone available who can: 1) DRIVE you to the office, 2) REMAIN at the office until the surgery, and 3) DRIVE you home AND TAKE CARE of you. Due to the sedation, you CANNOT drive for at least 48 hours after your surgery.
- START taking a multi-vitamin today and continue until you have healed from your surgical procedure if you are not taking one on a regular basis already.
- Take all medications as prescribed pre op and post op.
- PLEASE ARRIVE 1 FULL HOUR PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT TIME IF YOU ARE TAKING ORAL SEDATIONS.
